Arvis Purs (1961-2014) was one of the founders and long-term directors of BDESK (Formerly "Bolderāja Serviss" Ltd). The company is now thriving under his son Kristaps Purs, who is currently the main shareholder.
The origins of BDESK can be traced back to 1993 when a team of
10 Latvians founded a melamine faced chipboard home furniture manufacturing company.

During my childhood, when I was not associated with BDESK, my father often spoke about the importance of honesty, openness, trust, cooperation and ethics in life and business. As one of the founders and managers of BDESK, he created and developed the company based on these very values.
Now, being part of BDESK for more than 15 years, I am continuing what my father started and improving the company's integrity not only by maintaining the core values ​​he set and strengthened, but also by expanding the company's goals with currently relevant aspects - sustainability, social responsibility, innovation, climate neutrality and close cooperation with customers.

More than 30 years ago when the furniture manufacturing company BDESK was founded, manifesting a vision, values or a mission statement was not the norm. Even though these values were not loudly formulated, maintaining them was self-explanatory.
As a professional furniture carpenter, woodworking engineer-technologist and head of the BDESK company, I firmly believe that the integrity and reliability of the team are cornerstones for the company's long-term operations, whereas strategic long-term thinking of the management team and open communication with colleagues is the secret of the company's sustainability. Being part of the BDESK team for more than 20 years, I know that any challenge can be overcome through unified and diligent work.

The story of our growth and what we have become.
1993 - 2005
Establishment.
10 employees with a turnover of €200 000.
The company is founded and rents premises from
JSC "Bolderāja". Only a few woodworking facilities are
used in manufacturing home furniture from melamine faced chipboard.
1996-2000
Private property in Granita street.
41 employees with a turnover of €880 000.
A strategically important decision is made to purchase
private premises in Riga, Granita street 7 with an area of
~10 000 m2. The company expands its assortment and starts manufacturing furniture for schools and offices.
2001-2005
First export order.
78 employees with a turnover of €2 800 000.
The first export order to a client in Norway is carried out.
The company develops rapidly by expanding export in all of Scandinavia.
2006-2010
A period of challenges.
The number of employees falls from 88 to 68.
Turnover falls from €5 000 000 to €2 500 000.
The company succesfully overcomes the global financial crisis - a period of many challenges.
2011-2015
Growth in digitization.
104 employees with a turnover of €6 100 000.
The management team begins evaluating how to improve resource management and work in the digital environment. IMOS and CutRite are purchased and implemented.
Design works for the renovation of the building are started. Investments in technological facilities are continued.
2016-2020
Investments in technologies.
140 employees with a turnover of €8 500 000.
The ERP system Sage X3 was purchased and work began on integrating various other systems. ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 were implemented. Essential investments in technologies were carried out with implementing the smart warehouse and starting to implement the BSO line. We started our own IT department & overcame challenges caused by COVID-19.
2021-2023
New markets.
110 employees.
Turnover fell from €11 000 000 to €9 000 000.
2023 and 2024 were years of crisis in the furniture industry, but BDESK adapted successfully. The BSO line was finished and a solar park was created. We discovered new markets in Great Britain and France. We started work on CO2, EPD, Mobelfacta, Ecolabel etc.
